Overview

Designed to meet the most demanding requirements of today’s Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcast Market, the CMMB 5000 from UBS is ranked number one in its class. A key factor in the product success is the quality of the coding and modulation process.

Application

The performance and flexibility of the CMMB 5000 allows it to excel in any application related to CMMB modulation. The core function of the CMMB 5000 is to modulate a multiplex transport stream (input) onto a CMMB compliant COFDM spectrum (output) in accordance with the rules for channel coding and modulation specified in the CMMB GY/T 220.1/2006 and GY/T 220.2/2006 Standards.

RF Output

The RF Output is generated by a high performance RF converter, which covers the entire frequency range from 50 MHz to 1 GHz, in steps of just 1 Hz. The output level is adjustable between –10 to 0dBm, step 0.1dB. The user can set the polarity of the spectrum to Inverted or Non-inverted as required.

Inputs

The CMMB 5000 Modulator has two inputs (DVB-ASI format). The input can be either automatically selected, or assigned by the user. The automatic switching provides near seamless switching to a secondary transport stream in case the primary transport stream source fails (a truly valuable feature for broadcast applications.)

IF Output

CMMB 5000 delivers the COFDM spectrum on a user defined frequency between 35 and 46 MHz (Optional fixed IF frequency 5-80 MHz). Inverted/non-inverted spectrum is selected through the control interface. The spectrum bandwidth is 8 MHz. The IF Output can be directly interfaced to a wide range of transmitters and frequency converters.

SFN Mode

This mode provides the CMMB 5000 with market leading SFN performance, with respect to basic timing accuracy and extent of the local delay offset range. The user can select either the SFN or MFN mode via the control interfaces. The primary reference clock is the external 10MHz signal, to be applied from a GPS to the 10MHz input. If the external 10MHz signal is missing, the system will operate synchronized on its internal 10MHz oscillator.

Transmission time delay

The CMMB modulator supports an additional transmission time delay, which can be manually configured.

Time information Input Port

TOD information is provided through a dedicated RS-232 serial port. The TOD information is in 8-bit BCD code, according to the requirements specified in the CMMB standards.
