What is DVB-H

DVB-H is the latest development from the DVB Project targeting handheld, battery-powered devices
such as mobile telephones, PDAs etc.

• DVB-H is an extension of DVB-T
• DVB-H is based on IP datacasting
• DVB-H addresses the three main issues of handheld reception:

• Based on DVB-T's excellent mobile performance, it answers need to ensure reliable, high-speed, high data rate reception.

DVB-H System Architecture

UBS offers a complete DVB-H transmission system. UBS manufactures the following (shown with green outline):

• MPEG-4/H.264 and WMV Encoders
• DVB-H IP Encapsulators,
• provides Network Management and SI/PSI for IP encapsulator(s),
• DVB-T / DVB-H modulators and
• all transmitter components.

DVB-H Advantages

• If several hundred 3G network customers want to watch streamed video content in the same area at the same time, their operator must provide sufficient network capacity, which is costly
• Two-way data network for broadcast data is wasteful and does not scale well
• DVB-H offers robust one-way broadcasting content with rates up to 30 fps and saves 70-90% of the receiver’s battery
• DVB-H is efficient, high bit rate, economical solution
• Accepted by the world's largest handsets makers, including Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Siemens, and Sony Ericsson.
