Overview

The innovative WCS- 2.3 GHz Gap Filler (On Channel Repeater) from UBS is the latest in the new product range being released to serve the WCS transmission market. This outdoor unit is completely self -contained; only requiring connection to the main power supply and receive and transmit antennas.

This very flexible unit provides the complete solution to the broadcaster dilemma of how to increase the coverage of the signals in a cost effective manner. Whether the unit is employed to increase coverage in an urban environment or provide coverage in a geographically challenged area, its performance is truly stunning.

This wide bandwidth unit receives the WCS transmitted signals, filters and amplifies them with a minimal distortion. This is achieved by using LD MOS transistor operating in Class AB.

The primary application of the WCS Gap-Filler is the propagation of a seamless WCS signal, where geographical and physical impediments have affected network coverage, creating poor or non-existent signal reception (“gaps”). The WCS Gap-Filler is engineered to eliminate network coverage deficiencies by delivering the expected quality of signal reception to WCS receivers.

Being designed for outdoor, unattended operation, the unit is easily installed in a variety of locations (e.g. roof tops, utility poles or pylons and street light poles, etc), keeping the cost of ownership to an absolute minimum. As our world becomes more mobile, additional services come on line and greater coverage is required. This product will allow you to serve your customers in the most cost effective way, while keeping your capital costs to a minimum, hence offering the best possible opportunity for strong revenue growth.

The unit comes pre-configured and should require no further adjustment for most installations. The output power is monitored closely and is maintained at the set level, as long as the received signal is within the specified range. The user can monitor the output power, internal temperature, gain values and alarms via a serial port connection.

The Power detector and integrator close the AGC loop of gap filler variable gain amplifier, maintaining the output power constant within the range defined in the technical specification, for an input signal in the range from -55 dBm up to –10 dBm, providing 45 dB AGC range. AGC can be turned OFF, which allows to manually set the output power and gain.

The internal Controller circuit sets the output power level, monitors and reports the gain control voltage level, temperature, indicates hardware problems such as over-heating, RF output overload or DC failure.

The RS232 serial port is used for the remote control of the Repeater parameters and their on-site installation settings. The parameters are accessible through the user interface application installed on a PC or laptop computer.

The Repeater includes an internal DC/DC buck converter, which generates all the voltages required for the internal blocks. The DC supply voltage can vary from +20VDC to +60VDC (For instance at +26 VDC, the DC current will be approx. 1.5 Amps).

The Repeater enclosure is constructed out of high quality aluminum casing, providing reliable operation within the temperature range from -20°C to +55°C and relative humidity up to 100%.
